Mare

There is nothing like fresh fish in New England. The thing that surprises me about this city is that while there is a few restaurants which take advantage of this fact by serving fish, fresh fish isn’t always the center piece of their menus. There should be a restaurant on every corner where the only thing served is fish and an abundance of it with little or nothing else with it or on it to take away from it. There is one such place I have found in the North End, and if you love fresh fish the way it should be made then Mare is place for you. It is a very upscale place with a relaxed attitude. On Friday a a group of six of us went for a late dinner, which meant we had had a “few” cocktails before hand. While we a bit on the rowdier side the staff was friendly and joked with us all night. The waiter was terrific made excellent suggestions to members of our party who didn’t know what they would want or where unfamiliar with such an extensive menu. The menu itself is filled with things that I often always look for when I go to restaurants so it appealed to me immediately. The menu is filled with fresh fish selections served with little or nothing on it to take away from the quality of the fish which the restaurant ensures is the freshest and of the highest quality . The restaurant also claims the menu is 93.95% (or something like that…) organic or line caught fish and that’s great but it means nothing if not prepared correctly. It’s a good thing that preparing fish is Mare’s forte. Everything was perfect, as mentioned earlier the staff was easy going and knowledgeable and tolerated some light hearted joking  like when we asked him about ordering chicken fingers or steak tips for my Irish friend. When dinner was over Patty pretty much summed up all of our experience at the highly awarded restaurant. “It’s nice to go to a restaurant that supposed to be really good and it lives up to the hype.” So the next time you want fresh fish unspoiled by breading and heavy sauces I would highly recommend Mare.
